1st Samuel. The overview’s first two or three pages should include the overall theme of the book, its importance to Jews and Christians, and engage theories of authorship, the approximate dating of the writing, and which theory of authorship/date are most believable to the paper writer. The body of the paper should summarize the book while fleshing out major themes (e.g., “kingship” and “covenants”) and storylines. The conclusion should make certain the audience understands the writer’s position on textual background (authorship, dating, importance to the original readers and subsequent Jewish and Christian readers) while ending with a recap of what has previously been introduced within the paper.
